The game had a very big importance for second-ranked Boomers as it allowed them to take a leadership position. Boomers smashed 8th ranked Canberra Capitals in Melbourne 96-66. They outrebounded Canberra Capitals 45-30 including a 38-24 advantage in defensive rebounds. Boomers looked well-organized offensively handing out 21 assists. It was a great evening for the former international center Elizabeth Cambage (203-91) who led her team to a victory with a double-double by scoring 32 points, 11 rebounds and 4 assists. New Zealand forward Kalani Purcell (188-95, college: BYU) helped adding 5 points, 12 rebounds and 5 assists. At the losing side the former international power forward Lauren Scherf (196-96) responded with 11 points and 6 rebounds and American center Mistie Bass (191-83, college: Duke) scored 12 points. The winner was already known earlier in the game, so both coaches allowed to play the bench players saving starting five for next games. Boomers have a solid series of four victories in a row. As mentioned above they are alone now at the top position. Canberra Capitals lost ninth consecutive game. They stay at the bottom place with nine games lost. They share the position with Bendigo. Canberra Capitals will play next round against Bendigo Spirit trying to get back on the winning streak. Boomers will try to continue on its current victory against third ranked Sydney Uni Flames at home.
