Regular Season Round 9: Jyvaskyla BA - FoKoPo 77-84

There was a small surprise when tenth ranked Forssan Koripojat (3-6) won against on the road 8th ranked Jyvaskyla BA (3-5) 84-77 on Wednesday. The guests trailed by 2 points after first quarter, but they rallied back to get the 9-point lead at the halftime and eventually won the game 84-77. It was a good game for American guard John Merchant (187-89, college: Dowling) who led his team to a victory with 28 points and 9 rebounds. His fellow American import forward Juwan Howard-Jr (200-92, college: Detroit Mercy) contributed with 26 points and 8 rebounds for the winners. Four Forssan Koripojat players scored in double figures. Guard Valtteri Leppanen (186-97) answered with 21 points and 5 assists and guard Anton Kankaanpaa (196-92, college: S.Nazarene) added 16 points and 9 rebounds in the effort for Jyvaskyla BA. Jyvaskyla BA's coach Mikko Tupamaki let to play ten players, but that didn't help to avoid defeat in this game. Forssan Koripojat maintains tenth place in Division with 3-6 record. Loser Jyvaskyla BA dropped to the ninth position with five games lost. Forssan Koripojat will face higher ranked Pyrinto II (#7) in Tampere in the next round and it will be quite challenging to get another victory.
