There was no surprise when 9th ranked Marousi (3-4) lost to fourth ranked Apollon Patras (5-2) in Athens 53-65. Marousi was ahead by 2 points after three quarters before a 21-7 charge of Apollon Patras, which allowed them to win the game. They dominated on the defensive end, holding Marousi to just 7 points in fourth quarter. Apollon Patras made 19-of-23 charity shots (82.6 percent) during the game. They also forced 20 Marousi turnovers. Marousi was plagued by 24 personal fouls down the stretch. It was a great evening for center Costis Gontikas (206-94, college: New York U.) who led his team to a victory scoring 15 points and 8 rebounds. American guard Alex Acker (196-83, college: Pepperdine) helped adding 16 points. Marousi lost their third game in a row. Newly promoted team dropped to the tenth position with four games lost. They share it with Papagou and Psychiko. Apollon Patras will play against Ermis Agias (#6) in the next round. Marousi's supporters look forward to an exciting derby game next round, where their team will travel locally in Athens to the arena Psychiko.
