Regular Season Round 8: Ethnikos - Iraklis 58-66

Very predictable result in Pireus where third ranked Iraklis (6-1) defeated 9th ranked Ethnikos (3-4) 66-58. The guests started the game with a very strong first quarter 21-10. But Ethnikos won third quarter 23-13. However it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. The game was decided in the last minutes when Iraklis won last quarter 19-13. Kostas Kakaroudis (204-83) orchestrated the victory by scoring 16 points. Swingman Dimitrios Kalaitzidis (198-85, agency: Interperformances) contributed with 13 points and 7 rebounds for the winners. Iraklis' coach Vangelis Alexandris allowed to play the deep bench players saving starting five for next games. Center Kostas Macheras (205-85) replied with a double-double by scoring 12 points and 13 rebounds and Estonian point guard Rait-Riivo Laane (179-93) added 10 points, 5 rebounds and 6 assists in the effort for Ethnikos. Iraklis have a solid three-game winning streak. They moved-up to second place, which they share with Holargos. Ethnikos at the other side dropped to the tenth position with four games lost. Iraklis' next round opponent will be Doxa Lefkadas (#9) at home and are hoping to win another game. Ethnikos will play against Marousi in Athens and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
