Regular Season Round 7: Panathlitikos - Proteas 49-60

Date: December 3, 2017
Everything could happen in Thessaloniki at the game between two tied teams. Both tenth ranked Proteas and 9th ranked Panathlitikos had identical 1-5 record. But Panathlitikos was not able to use a home court advantage and lost to the opponent from Voula 60-49. The game was mostly controlled by Proteas. Panathlitikos was better in fourth quarter 13-10. But it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. Proteas forced 19 Panathlitikos turnovers. They brought some defensive toughness making 9 blocks. The former international forward Anthoula Chatzigiakoumi (185-92, college: FGCU) fired 14 points, 9 rebounds and 4 blocks for the winners. American power forward Kristi Mokube (188-93, college: George Mason) chipped in 9 points and 10 rebounds. Canadian forward Micaella Riche (188-92, college: Minnesota) produced 10 points and 7 rebounds and American swingman Katie Hempen (175-93, college: Arizona St.) added 5 points and 7 rebounds respectively for lost side. Both coaches used bench players and allowed the starting five to rest. Proteas (2-5) moved-up to ninth place. Panathlitikos lost their sixth game in a row. They dropped to the tenth position with six games lost. Proteas' next round opponent will be bottom-ranked Panathinaikos (#12) in Athens. Panathlitikos will play at home against Esperides and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
