Regular Season Round 12: Montecatini - Varese Robur 81-49
Date: December 7, 2017
Very expected game when 14th ranked Varese Robur (4-8) was smashed on the road by fifth ranked Montecatiniterme (8-4) 81-49 on Thursday. Montecatiniterme made 20-of-24 free shots (83.3 percent) during the game. Montecatiniterme outrebounded Varese Robur 41-29 including a 33-19 advantage in defensive rebounds. Great defensive blocking was one of the keys in this match when Montecatiniterme made 7 blocks. It was a good game for swingman Giorgio Artioli (200-95, agency: Players Group) who led his team to a victory with a double-double by scoring 15 points and 10 rebounds. Forward Marco Petrucci (195-92) contributed with a double-double by scoring 13 points and 10 rebounds for the winners. Four Montecatiniterme players scored in double figures. Guard Riccardo Caruso (186-1) replied with 10 points and power forward Edoardo Moretti (198-98) added 6 points in the effort for Varese Robur. Since the result was very predictable, it gave the chance for the coaches to test many bench players and allowed the starting five to rest. Despite that victory Montecatiniterme went down to sixth position (B) due to points difference. Loser Varese Robur dropped to the twelfth place with eight games lost. Montecatiniterme will face league's second-placed Firenze All Foods on the road in the next round and it may be quite challenging game. Varese Robur will play against Super Flavor M. (#3) and hope to win that game.
