Regular Season Round 9: Marousi - Ethnikos 66-61

We cannot really consider it an upset in the game between close teams in Athens where 10th ranked Ethnikos (3-5) was defeated by eleventh ranked Marousi (4-5) 66-61 on Saturday. Ethnikos trailed by 11 points after 3 quarters before a 17-11 run in the last quarter cut the deficit to 61-66 at the end of the game. The best player for the winners was Andreas Rekouniotis (200-95) who scored 9 points and 9 rebounds. Guard Giorgos Sourlis (190-85) chipped in 12 points and 5 steals. At the other side the best for losing team was center Kostas Macheras (205-85) who recorded 9 points, 10 rebounds and 6 assists and swingman Paraskevas Martzos (197-85) added 19 points respectively. Both coaches allowed to play bench players in such tough game. Marousi moved-up to tenth place. Loser Ethnikos dropped to the eleventh position with five games lost. Marousi will face higher ranked Doxa Lefkadas (#8) on the road in the next round and it will be quite challenging to get another victory. Ethnikos will play against the league's second-placed Holargos where they are definitely not considered as a favorite in this game either.
