Regular Season Round 8: Trikalla - Kymis 60-71
Date: December 9, 2017
We cannot really consider it an upset in the game between close teams in Trikala where 12th ranked Aiolos Trikallon (2-6) was defeated by thirteenth ranked Kymis (2-6) 71-60 on Saturday. The game was mostly controlled by Kymis. Aiolos Trikallon was better in fourth quarter 20-9. But it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. They dominated on the defensive end, holding Aiolos Trikallon to just 5 points in third quarter. Kymis dominated down low during the game scoring 48 of its points in the paint compared to Aiolos Trikallon's 26. They outrebounded Aiolos Trikallon 50-33 including 16 on the offensive glass. Great defensive blocking was one of the keys in this match when Kymis made 7 blocks. Americans were the main players on the court. Worth to mention a great performance of guard Lenzelle Smith-Jr (193-91, college: Ohio St.) who helped to win the game recording 21 points and 8 rebounds and center Gary McGhee (209-88, college: Pittsburgh, agency: Inception Sports) who added 11 points and 12 rebounds during the contest. Four Kymis players scored in double figures. Point guard Shawndre Jones (180-94, college: Richmond) responded with 18 points, 6 assists and 4 steals and forward Shannon Hale-Jr (203-94, college: Alabama) scored 8 points and 6 rebounds. Both coaches allowed to play bench players saving starting five for next games. Kymis moved-up to twelfth place, which they share with Trikalla. Aiolos Trikallon lost fourth consecutive game. Kymis will face higher ranked Aris (#10) in Thessaloniki in the next round and it may be quite challenging game.
