Regular Season Round 14: Al-Riffa - Al-Bahrain 83-55

Rather expected game when 9th ranked Al-Bahrain (4-9) was crushed on the road by sixth ranked Al-Riffa (8-4) 83-55. Al-Riffa dominated down low during the game scoring 64 of its points in the paint compared to Al-Bahrain's 28. Their players were unselfish on offense dishing 24 assists. American-New Zealand forward Marcel Jones (203-85, college: Oregon St.) orchestrated the victory with a double-double by scoring 26 points, 15 rebounds and 7 assists. The former international center Abdulrahman Ghali (197-88) contributed with 8 points and 12 rebounds for the winners. Al-Riffa's coach Toni Vujanic felt very confident that he used 10 players and allowed the starting five to rest. American forward Merrill Holden (203-93, college: Iowa St., agency: SDJ Sports) replied with a double-double by scoring 23 points and 14 rebounds and the former international Mahdi Ashoor (-90) added 6 points and 10 rebounds in the effort for Al-Bahrain. Al-Riffa have an impressive five-game winning streak. They moved-up to fifth place. Al-Bahrain at the other side dropped to the tenth position with nine games lost. Al-Riffa's next round opponent will be higher ranked Al-Muharraq (#3) in Al Muharraq and it may be quite challenging game. Al-Bahrain's supporters look forward to an exciting derby game next round, where their team will travel locally in Manama to the arena Al-Najma.
