Regular Season Round 9: Panionios - Trikalla 82-76

Panionios can celebrate finally their first win this season after eight consecutive losses. They used home court advantage to defeat Aiolos Trikallon (2-7) 82-76 on Saturday. Aiolos Trikallon trailed by 11 points at halftime and as many as 14 after three quarters before a 24-16 last quarter charge cut the deficit to 76-82 at the end of the game. Swingman Vagel Sakellariou (195-89) stepped up and scored 10 points and 8 assists for the winners and Serbian Slaven Cupkovic (205-88, agency: Octagon Europe) chipped in 17 points. The best for the losing side was American swingman Lamond Murray-Jr (196, college: Pepperdine) with 21 points, 9 rebounds and 6 assists and point guard Michail Lountzis (196-98) scored 13 points and 5 assists. Both coaches tested many bench players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Newly promoted Panionios maintains fourteenth place with 1-8 record. It was Aiolos Trikallon's fifth loss in a row. They keep the thirteenth position with seven games lost. Panionios will meet league's second-placed Olympiacos in the next round and it will be quite challenging to get another victory. Aiolos Trikallon will play against Aris (#12) in Thessaloniki and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
