Regular Season Round 10: Olympiacos - Panionios 87-65
Date: December 31, 2017
No shocking result in a game when second ranked Olympiacos (8-2) crushed bottom-ranked Panionios (1-9) in Pireus 87-65 on Sunday. The game was mostly controlled by Olympiacos. Panionios managed to win second period 25-24. But it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. They dominated on the defensive end, holding Panionios to just 6 points in third quarter. They outrebounded Panionios 42-26 including 28 on the defensive glass. Olympiacos looked well-organized offensively handing out 26 assists comparing to just 12 passes made by Panionios' players. American Hollis Thompson (203-91, college: Georgetown) notched 24 points and 5 rebounds to lead the effort and international forward Kostas Papanikolaou (205-90) supported him with 10 points and 8 rebounds. Four Olympiacos players scored in double figures. Even 11 points and 6 rebounds by French point guard Boris Dallo (196-94, agency: Octagon Europe) did not help to save the game for Panionios. Serbian-Canadian power forward Dejan Kravic (211-90, college: Texas Tech) added 13 points for lost side. The winner was already known earlier in the game, so both coaches allowed to play the bench players saving starting five for next games. Olympiacos maintains second position with 8-2 record having just two points less than leader Panathinaikos. Newly promoted Panionios stay at the bottom place with nine games lost. Olympiacos will meet PAOK (#4) in the next round. Panionios will play against Aris (#10) and hope to win that game.
