Regular Season Round 13: Akademik PL - Balkan 80-70

Very important is a road loss of second ranked Balkan (8-3) against fourth ranked Academik Plovdiv (7-5) on Saturday night. Visiting Balkan was defeated by Academik Plovdiv in Plovdiv 80-70. It ended at the same time the two-game winning streak of Balkan. It was a key game for the second position in the league. Academik Plovdiv had a 26-15 advantage in offensive rebounds. Their players were unselfish on offense dishing 26 assists comparing to just 6 passes made by Balkan's players. Worth to mention a great performance of international Dimitar Dimitrov (203-93) who helped to win the game recording 25 points, 8 rebounds and 6 assists. Serbian center Nikola Maravic (212-89, agency: BeoBasket) contributed with 18 points, 8 rebounds and 4 assists for the winners. American guard Devin Brooks (186-92, college: Creighton) answered with 11 points and 9 rebounds and guard Ventsislav Petkov (188-91) added 19 points in the effort for Balkan. Four Balkan players scored in double figures. Academik Plovdiv moved-up to second place, which they share with Lukoil Acad. Balkan at the other side dropped to the third position with three games lost. Academik Plovdiv will play against Levski 2014 (#4) in Sofia in the next round. Balkan will play at home against Spartak Pleven and hopes to get back on the winning track.
