Regular Season Round 18: Mondragon - Estela 76-84

EBA top team - Estela (14-1) added another victory to their record on Saturday. This time they beat fifteenth ranked Mondragon (4-11) 84-76. The guests started the game with a very strong first quarter 28-16. But Mondragon won second period 25-15. However it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. Czech center Tomas Hampl (215-88) notched a double-double by scoring 38 points (!!!) and 16 rebounds (perfect from the field making all fifteen shots !!!) to lead the effort and Pablo Sanchez (198-81) supported him with 14 points. Even a double-double of 18 points and 11 rebounds by American forward Justin Satchell (203, college: St.Leo) did not help to save the game for Mondragon. Andoni Aranzabal (188-91) added 15 points and 5 assists. Four Mondragon players scored in double figures. Mondragon's coach rotated twelve players in this game, but that didn't help. Estela have an impressive eight-game winning streak. They maintain first position in Group A-A with 14-1 record, which they share with Zornotza. Loser Mondragon keeps the fifteenth place with 11 games lost. They share the position with Zarautz. Estela will meet Valle de Egues (#13) in the next round which should be an easy win for them. Mondragon will play against Burgos and hope to secure a win.
