Regular Season Round 11: Maia Basket - Beira Mar 67-62

Very expected game when bottom-ranked Beira Mar (0-11) was defeated on the road by second ranked Maia Basket (8-3) 67-62 on Saturday. However just five-point win is not that big difference and the fans of host team counted on more convincing victory. Maia Basket outrebounded Beira Mar 43-26 including a 32-20 advantage in defensive rebounds. Beira Mar was plagued by 26 personal fouls down the stretch. It was a great evening for Joao Lucas (195-96) who led his team to a victory scoring 24 points and 7 rebounds. The former international center David Gomes (200-86) helped adding 11 points and 14 rebounds. American forward Andre Jackson (198, college: Bowie St.) responded with a double-double by scoring 22 points, 12 rebounds, 4 assists and 4 steals and guard Goncalo Catarino (173-94) scored 13 points. Beira Mar's coach Carlos Cabral rotated ten players in this game, but that didn't help. Maia Basket maintains second place in North with 8-3 record having just three points less than leader Imortal. Newly promoted Beira Mar still closes the standings with 11 games lost. Maia Basket will face Sanjoanense (#4) in Sao Joao in the next round. Beira Mar will play at home against Vasco (#5) and hopes to get finally their first victory.
