Very expected game in Las Palmas where 13th ranked RETAbet BB (5-10) was defeated by sixth ranked Gran Canaria (9-6) 90-85 on Sunday. However just five-point win is not that big difference and the fans of host team counted on more convincing victory. The hosts trailed by 8 points after first quarter, but they rallied back to get the 2-point lead at the halftime and eventually won the game 90-85. Gran Canaria made 20-of-26 free shots (76.9 percent) during the game. Gran Canaria outrebounded RETAbet BB 31-19 including 23 on the defensive glass. The best player for the winners was international point guard Albert Oliver (187-78) who scored 11 points and 9 assists. Swedish swingman Marcus Eriksson (201-93) chipped in 14 points. At the other side the best for losing team was American Devin Thomas (206-94, college: Wake Forest) who recorded 19 points and 5 rebounds and Bosnian-Serbian forward Dejan Todorovic (197-94) added 14 points respectively. Five Gran Canaria and four RETAbet BB players scored in double figures. Both coaches allowed to play bench players in such tough game. Gran Canaria moved-up to fifth place, which they share with Baskonia. Loser RETAbet BB dropped to the fourteenth position with ten games lost. Gran Canaria will face UCAM Murcia (#10) on the road in the next round which should be theoretically an easy game. RETAbet BB will play against Joventut (#16) and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
