Regular Season Round 17: Lucentum - Real Canoe 78-72

Very expected game when 9th ranked Real Canoe (8-9) was defeated on the road by fourth ranked HLA Alicante (12-5) 78-72 on Friday. However just six-point win is not that big difference and the fans of host team counted on more convincing victory. Real Canoe was tied after three quarters but could not keep up in the last quarter eventually losing the game. Great defensive blocking was one of the keys in this match when HLA Alicante made 7 blocks. The best player for the winners was forward Jorge Lafuente (196-91) who scored 18 points, 7 rebounds and 4 assists. Point guard Pedro Rivero (186-79) chipped in 15 points and 7 assists. Center Jose-Maria Gil (207-91, agency: Dynamics Global Management) produced 10 points and 9 rebounds and Jose-Miguel Perez (202-96) added 10 points and 9 rebounds respectively for the guests. Both teams had four players each who scored in double figures. Real Canoe's coach Miguel Angel Aranzabal tested eleven players, but that didn't help to avoid defeat in this game. HLA Alicante moved-up to third place. Newly promoted Real Canoe keeps the ninth position with nine games lost. HLA Alicante will face league's second-placed CB Granada on the road in the next round and it will be for sure the game of the week. Real Canoe will play against Cambados (#12) and hope to win that game.
