There was no surprise in Langen where 10th ranked Wasserburg II (3-8) was defeated by seventh ranked Rhein Main Baskets (6-6) 80-68 on Saturday. The game was mostly controlled by Rhein Main Baskets. Wasserburg II was better in fourth quarter 20-19. But it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. They outrebounded Wasserburg II 29-15 including 22 on the defensive glass. Point guard Pia Dietrich (168-94) stepped up and scored 30 points and 4 steals (on 11-of-14 shooting from the field) for the winners and the former international point guard Nelli Dietrich (169-89) chipped in 9 points and 7 rebounds. Rhein Main Baskets' coach Peter Kortmann used a ten-player rotation and allowed the starting five to rest. At the losing side center Anna Heise (188-93, college: Maine) responded with 18 points and American forward Elizabeth Wood (178-93, college: Maine) scored 17 points and 5 rebounds. Rhein Main Baskets moved-up to fifth place in South, which they share with Krofdorf/Gleib. Wasserburg II lost sixth consecutive game. They keep the tenth position with eight games lost. Rhein Main Baskets will have a break next round. Wasserburg II will play at home against Weiterstadt (#4) and hope to win that game.
