Regular Season Round 13: Marousi - Iraklis 59-77

Very expected game when 10th ranked Marousi (5-8) lost to second ranked Iraklis (10-3) in Athens 59-77 on Saturday. The guests trailed by 1 point after first quarter, but they stormed back to get the 10-point lead at the halftime and eventually won the game 77-59. Iraklis dominated on the defensive end, holding Marousi to just 5 points in fourth quarter. They looked well-organized offensively handing out 24 assists. It was a very good performance for guard Yannis Gagaloudis (192-78) who helped to win the game recording 10 points, 5 rebounds and 9 assists. Guard Kostas Totsios (191-78) contributed with 11 points and 4 assists for the winners. Four Iraklis players scored in double figures. Guard Pavlos Xydas (185-93) answered with 12 points and 4 assists and swingman Giannis Stoukas (201-91) added 11 points in the effort for Marousi. Both coaches used bench players and allowed the starting five to rest. Iraklis maintains second place with 10-3 record having just three points less than leader Peristeri GS, which they share with Holargos. Newly promoted Marousi keeps the tenth position with eight games lost. Iraklis will face AE Larissas (#15) at home in the next round which should be an easy win for them. Marousi's supporters look forward to an exciting derby game next round, where their team will face at home their local rival from Athens Peristeri GS.
