Regular Season Round 20: Valladolid Univ. - Mondragon 99-75

Not a big story in a game when 14th ranked Mondragon (5-12) was outplayed on the road by eighth ranked Valladolid Univ. (8-9) 99-75 on Saturday. The game without a history. Valladolid Univ. led from the first minutes and controlled entire game increasing their lead in each quarter. They made 17-of-17 free shots (100 percent !!!) during the game. Valladolid Univ. outrebounded Mondragon 42-30 including a 35-22 advantage in defensive rebounds. They looked well-organized offensively handing out 23 assists. The best player for the winners was Javier Martinez (187-97) who scored 35 points (!!!). Power forward Alvaro Encinas (202-94) chipped in a double-double by scoring 10 points and 13 rebounds. American forward Justin Satchell (203, college: St.Leo) produced a double-double by scoring 14 points and 10 rebounds and guard Iker Barbero (192-92) added 14 points and 8 rebounds respectively for the guests. Four Mondragon players scored in double figures. Since the result was very predictable, it gave the chance for the coaches to test many bench players and allowed the starting five to rest. Valladolid Univ. maintains eighth position in Group A-A with 8-9 record. Loser Mondragon keeps the fourteenth place with 12 games lost. Valladolid Univ. will face Valle de Egues (#13) in Olaz in the next round where they are favorite. Mondragon will play at home against the league's second-placed Zornotza and will have a slim chance for a victory.
