Regular Season Round 19: Cherkasy - Politekhnik 80-85

The game between third ranked Cherkasy (11-8) and seventh ranked Politekhnik (4-15) was the most important one in the last round on Saturday night. Cherkasy was defeated by Politekhnik in a tough game in Cherkasy 80-85. It ended at the same time the five-game winning streak of Cherkasy. The guests were tied at the half but managed to speed up in last two quarters eventually winning the game. They outrebounded Cherkasy 40-24 including 25 on the defensive glass. 24 personal fouls committed by Cherkasy helped opponents get some easy free throw opportunities. It was a great evening for Serbian point guard Vuk Jovanovic (183-95) who led his team to a victory scoring 34 points (!!!). Power forward Anton Rochnyak (205-91) helped adding 10 points, 12 rebounds and 5 assists. Four Politekhnik players scored in double figures. At the losing side the former international swingman Oleksandr Kolchenko (195-88) responded with 27 points and 4 assists (made all of his seven free throws) and Serbian power forward Nikola Djuric (201-91) produced a double-double by scoring 14 points and 10 rebounds. Cherkasy's coach Maksym Mikhelson rotated ten players in this game, but that didn't help. Politekhnik maintains seventh place with 4-15 record. Cherkasy at the other side keeps the third position with eight games lost. Politekhnik are looking forward to face bottom-ranked Zaporizhye (#8) in Zaporozhye in the next round. Cherkasy will play on the road against Khimik (#5) in Yuzhny and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
