Regular Season Round 19: Niigata R. - Toyota B SR 49-57

Bottom-ranked Niigata R. (0-19) tried to put together a comeback for its first victory of the season, but they fell short in the 57-49 loss to seventh ranked Toyota B SR (9-10) in Tokyo on Saturday evening. The guests trailed by 2 points after first quarter, but they rallied back to get the 9-point lead at the halftime and eventually won the game 57-49. Toyota B SR dominated on the defensive end, holding Niigata R. to just 5 points in fourth quarter. They outrebounded Niigata R. 46-30 including 20 on the offensive glass. It was a great evening for forward Mika Yamanaka (175-88) who led her team to a victory with a double-double by scoring 13 points and 10 rebounds. Guard Yui Kawahara (169-91) helped adding 8 points, 7 rebounds and 6 assists. At the losing side point guard Megumi Yamasawa (162-96) responded with 13 points and 4 assists and forward Anka Ohama (180-92) scored 8 points and 8 rebounds. Both coaches tested many bench players and allowed the starting five to rest. Toyota B SR maintains seventh place with 9-10 record. Loser Niigata R. still closes the standings. Toyota B SR will have a break next round, and it should allow them to practice more before next game. Niigata R. will play again against Toyota B SR (#7) and hopes to get finally their first victory.
