Regular Season Round 18: Neptunas - Lietkabelis 83-78

An exciting game between Top Four teams was played in Klaipeda. Third ranked Neptunas faced one of their biggest challengers Lietkabelis. Host Neptunas (16-4) defeated guests from Panevezys (13-8) 83-78. The hosts took control from the first minutes by winning the initial quarter 26-19. But Lietkabelis won second period 19-16. However it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. The game was decided in the last minutes when Neptunas won last quarter 22-19. The best player for the winners was forward Edgaras Zelionis (207-89) who scored 25 points and 4 steals. The former international Renaldas Seibutis (196-85) chipped in 21 points. At the other side the best for losing team was Latvian swingman Zanis Peiners (207-90) who recorded 19 points and the former international Simas Jasaitis (202-82) added 14 points and 5 rebounds respectively. Both coaches used bench players in such tough game. Neptunas maintains third position with 16-4 record having four points less than leader Zalgiris. Lietkabelis at the other side keeps the fourth place with eight games lost. Neptunas are looking forward to face P.Zvaigzdes (#6) in Pasvalys in the next round. Lietkabelis will play at home against Siauliai and is hoping to prove to their fans that this time they can win.
