Regular Season Round 15: Apollon Patras - Ethnikos 70-81

There was an upset when higher ranked Apollon Patras (9-6) was defeated at home by eleventh ranked Ethnikos (6-9) 81-70 on Saturday. The game was mostly controlled by Ethnikos. Apollon Patras was better in third quarter 19-15. But it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. The best player for the winners was Estonian point guard Rait-Riivo Laane (179-93) who scored 21 points, 6 rebounds, 4 assists and 4 steals (perfect behind the arc making all five shots). Swingman Paraskevas Martzos (197-85) chipped in 17 points. At the other side the best for losing team was point guard Sarandis Mastrogiannopoulos (194-98) who recorded a double-double by scoring 16 points and 10 rebounds and American guard Alex Acker (196-83, college: Pepperdine) added 10 points, 6 rebounds and 6 assists respectively. Apollon Patras' coach Dimitris Papadopoulos rotated twelve players in this game, but that didn't help. Ethnikos moved-up to tenth place, which they share with Marousi. Loser Apollon Patras dropped to the fourth position with six games lost. Ethnikos will face higher ranked Kastoria (#6) on the road in the next round and it will be quite challenging to get another victory. Apollon Patras will play against Doxa Lefkadas and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
