Regular Season Round 32: Sendai 89ers - Akita NH 50-71

Date: January 27, 2018
An exciting game between Top Four teams was played in Sendai. First ranked Akita Happinets faced 4th ranked Sendai 89ers. Guests from Akita (27-4) smashed host Sendai 89ers (13-18) 71-50. Akita Happinets forced 23 Sendai 89ers turnovers. They brought some defensive toughness making 8 blocks. The winners were led by Bahamas power forward Kadeem Coleby (206-89, college: Wichita St.) who scored that evening 10 points and 9 rebounds and point guard Shota Onodera (183-94) supported him with 12 points. Coleby is a former Eurobasket Summer League player, which is considered top international summer league in the market. Four Akita Happinets players scored in double figures. Even 13 points and 8 assists by guard Kaito Ishikawa (188-90) did not help to save the game for Sendai 89ers. Guard Ryunosuke Yanagawa (187-91) added 10 points and 7 rebounds for the hosts. The winner was already known earlier in the game, so both coaches allowed to play the bench players saving starting five for next games. Akita Happinets have an impressive five-game winning streak. They maintain first position with 27-4 record. Sendai 89ers lost fourth consecutive game. They keep the fourth place with 18 games lost. Akita Happinets will have a break next round. Sendai 89ers will play again at home against the league's leader Akita Happinets (#1) and hope to win that game.
