Regular Season Round 21: L Alfas - Gandia 90-77

Date: January 28, 2018
There was a small surprise when fourth ranked L Alfas (9-5) won against second-best Gandia (11-3) in Alfas Del Pi 90-77 on Sunday. The game was mostly controlled by L Alfas. Gandia was better in third quarter 21-18. But it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. They dominated down low during the game scoring 66 of its points in the paint compared to Gandia's 44. L Alfas forced 19 Gandia turnovers. Great defensive blocking was one of the keys in this match when L Alfas made 7 blocks. It was a good game for power forward Alejandro Rivas (203-98) who led his team to a victory with 14 points, 5 rebounds, 4 assists and 5 steals. American guard Anthony Jones (191-84, college: Indiana Tech, agency: Interperformances) contributed with 14 points and 5 rebounds for the winners. American forward Matthew Temple (208, college: Texas Tech) answered with a double-double by scoring 17 points and 10 rebounds and the other American import forward Faith Pope (201-95, college: Texas Arlington) added 17 points and 8 rebounds in the effort for Gandia. Both teams had five players each who scored in double figures. Both coaches used bench players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. The victory was the ninth consecutive win for L Alfas. They maintain fourth place in Group E with 9-5 record. Loser Gandia still keeps top position with three games lost. L Alfas will face Lliria (#8) on the road in the next round. Gandia will play against the league's leader Valencia-2 (#1) and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
