Regular Season Round 9: Singapore S. - Westports MD 90-89

Seventh-ranked Malaysian Westports MD (3-7) made lots of trouble for fourth ranked Singapore Slingers (7-6) on Sunday. Singapore Slingers managed to secure only one-point victory 90-89. However their fans expected easier game. Singapore Slingers forced 21 Westports MD turnovers. They looked well-organized offensively handing out 22 assists. The best player for the winners was American guard Xavier Alexander (198-88, college: S.Nazarene) who scored 32 points, 8 rebounds, 8 assists and 7 steals. His fellow American import power forward Christien Charles (216-81, college: Villanova) chipped in a double-double by scoring 17 points and 18 rebounds. At the other side the best for losing team was center Tian-Yuan Kuek (201-91) who recorded a double-double by scoring 21 points and 15 rebounds and American guard Joshua Munzon (191-95, college: CS Los Angeles) added 20 points, 5 rebounds, 10 assists and 4 steals respectively. Four Singapore Slingers and five Westports MD players scored in double figures. Singapore Slingers maintains fourth place with 7-6 record. Westports MD lost third consecutive game. They keep the seventh position with seven games lost. Singapore Slingers are looking forward to face higher ranked Alab Pilipinas (#3) in Manila in the next round and it will be quite challenging to get another victory. Westports MD will play on the road against the league's leader Hong Kong ELL (#1) and is hoping to prove to their supporters that they can break losing series.
