Regular Season Round 22: Gandia - Valencia II 79-78

There was a change at the EBA leadership position after last games. Round 22 most important game was a defeat of league's leader Valencia-2 (11-4). They were edged by second ranked Gandia (12-3) 79-78 on Saturday night. It was a key game for the top position in Group E. Valencia-2 was trailing by 1 point at halftime but managed to get 13-point lead after three quarters before a 32-18 charge of Gandia, which allowed them to win the game. They also forced 20 Valencia-2 turnovers. 25 personal fouls committed by Valencia-2 helped opponents get some easy free throw opportunities. American forward Fitzgerald White (201-91, college: Union, KY) scored 18 points, 6 rebounds and 6 assists to lead the charge for the winners and the other American import forward Faith Pope (201-95, college: Texas Arlington) chipped in 18 points and 6 rebounds during the contest. Four Gandia players scored in double figures. At the losing side swingman Josep Puerto (199-99) responded with 23 points and 7 rebounds and center Alejandro Vera (200-97) scored 18 points (on 8-of-9 shooting from the field). Gandia keeps a position of Group E leader. Valencia-2 at the other side dropped to the third place with four games lost. They were replaced at the leadership position by Gandia. Valencia-2 will play next round against Lliria trying to make it back to the top of the standings. Gandia will try to continue on its current victory against ninth ranked Sagunto in Gilet.
