Regular Season Round 19: Nevezis - Lietuvos rytas 73-83

Very expected game when 9th ranked Nevezis (6-17) lost to second ranked Lietuvos rytas (18-4) in Kedainiai 73-83 on Saturday. The game was mostly controlled by Lietuvos rytas. Nevezis managed to win second period 22-20. But it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. It was a great shooting night for Lietuvos rytas especially from behind the arc, where they had solid 56.3 percentage. It was an exceptional evening for international Rokas Giedraitis (200-92) who led the winners and scored 21 points (on 8-of-10 shooting from the field). The former international guard Mindaugas Girdziunas (188-89) accounted for 15 points for the winning side. Four Lietuvos rytas players scored in double figures. American point guard Lester Medford (178-93, college: Baylor, agency: 3Eye) came up with 22 points and 7 rebounds and forward Gabas Maldunas (206-93, college: Dartmouth) added 12 points respectively for Nevezis in the defeat. Both coaches tested many bench players and allowed the starting five to rest. The victory was the tenth consecutive win for Lietuvos rytas. They maintain second place with 18-4 record having just two points less than leader Zalgiris. Loser Nevezis keeps the ninth position with 17 games lost. Lietuvos rytas will meet at home league's leader Zalgiris in the next round and it will be for sure the game of the week. Nevezis will play against Lietkabelis (#4) in Panevezys and hope to secure a win.
