Date: February 4, 2018
An exciting game between Top Four teams was played in Gunma. Second ranked Gunma faced 4th placed Sendai 89ers. Host Gunma (20-13) smashed guests from Sendai (13-21) 92-68. Gunma made 24-of-26 charity shots (92.3 percent) during the game. It was an exceptional evening for American forward Thomas Kennedy (201-87, college: Detroit Mercy) who led the winners and scored 24 points. His fellow American import forward Scootie Randall (198-90, college: Temple) accounted for 14 points, 10 rebounds and 4 assists for the winning side. Five Gunma players scored in double figures. South Sudanese-American forward Angelo Chol (206-93, college: San Diego St., agency: Two Points) came up with 14 points and 8 rebounds and guard Shuto Mizoguchi (187-87) added 14 points respectively for Sendai 89ers in the defeat. The winner was already known earlier in the game, so both coaches allowed to play the bench players saving starting five for next games. Gunma maintains second place with 20-13 record having just three points less than leader Akita NH, which they share with Fukushima. Sendai 89ers lost their seventh game in a row. They keep the fourth position with 21 games lost. Gunma's next round opponent will be Kanazawa Sam. (#3) in Ishikawa, which may be the game of the day. Sendai 89ers will play at home against Orange Vikings and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
