Regular Season Round 17: Doxa Lefkadas - Kastoria 73-77

The most shocking disappointment of round 17 in the A2 was a home defeat of 6th ranked Doxa Lefkadas (9-8) to seventh ranked Kastoria (10-7) 77-73. The guests took control from the first minutes by winning first half. But Doxa Lefkadas won third quarter 22-17. However it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. Kastoria made 19-of-24 free shots (79.2 percent) during the game. Kastoria outrebounded Doxa Lefkadas 35-24 including 27 on the defensive glass. Point guard Giannis Kyriakopoulos (185-83) stepped up and scored 16 points for the winners and forward Giorgos Brozos (198-86, college: Furman) chipped in 13 points and 4 assists. Point guard Nikos Liakopoulos (188-83) responded with 28 points and 4 assists (was perfect 9-for-9 from the free throw line !!!) and forward Nikos Angelopoulos (205-84, agency: Interperformances) scored 13 points. Both coaches used bench players in such tough game. Kastoria moved-up to fifth place, which they share with Amyntas Dafnis. Doxa Lefkadas lost third consecutive game. They dropped to the seventh position with eight games lost. Kastoria is looking forward to face Doukas (#15) in Athens in the next round and are hoping to win another game. Doxa Lefkadas will play on the road against Amyntas Dafnis (#5) in Athens and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
