Regular Season Round 23: Obradoiro II - Ponferrada CDP 96-82

There was an upset in Santiago de Comp where higher ranked Ponferrada CDP (10-10) was defeated by fourteenth ranked Obradoiro II (7-13) 96-82 on Saturday. The game was mostly controlled by Obradoiro II. Ponferrada CDP was better in second period 24-21. But it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. The game was decided in the last minutes when Obradoiro II won last quarter 31-18. They made 20-of-23 free shots (87.0 percent) during the game. They looked well-organized offensively handing out 27 assists comparing to just 14 passes made by Ponferrada CDP's players. The best player for the winners was Rodrigo Gomez who scored 29 points, 7 rebounds and 4 assists. Brais Losada chipped in 23 points and 8 rebounds. Four Obradoiro II players scored in double figures. American swingman Chris Sterling (196, college: Ariz.Christian) produced 24 points and 9 rebounds and Brazilian center Leandro Miranda (205-91) added 17 points respectively for the guests. Both coaches allowed to play bench players saving starting five for next games. Obradoiro II moved-up to thirteenth place in Group A-B, which they share with Coruna II and Culleredo. Loser Ponferrada CDP keeps the fifth position with ten games lost. Obradoiro II will face Venta de Banos (#16) on the road in the next round. Ponferrada CDP will play against Carbajosa (#5) and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
