Regular Season Round 17: Iraklis - Karditsas 87-77

Very predictable result in Thessaloniki where second ranked Iraklis (14-3) defeated 13th ranked Karditsas (4-13) 87-77 on Saturday. Karditsas was trailing by 5 points at halftime but managed to get 1-point lead after three quarters before a 23-12 charge of Iraklis, which allowed them to win the game. They looked well-organized offensively handing out 27 assists. Kostas Kakaroudis (204-83) stepped up and scored 24 points, 7 rebounds and 4 assists for the winners and guard Kostas Totsios (191-78) chipped in 12 points and 9 assists. Four Iraklis players scored in double figures. Serbian center Stefan Djordjevic (206-89) responded with 23 points and 9 rebounds and point guard Thomas Amparas (190-94) scored 16 points and 5 rebounds. Both coaches allowed to play bench players saving starting five for next games. The victory was the fifth consecutive win for Iraklis. They maintain second place with 14-3 record having just three points less than leader Peristeri GS, which they share with Holargos. Newly promoted Karditsas keeps the thirteenth position with 13 games lost. Iraklis will face Papagou (#12) in Athens in the next round and are hoping to win another game. Karditsas will play at home against Marousi and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
