Regular Season Round 25: Niigata R. - Aishin AW 48-53

There was no surprise in Tokyo where bottom-ranked Niigata R. (0-25) was defeated by tenth ranked Aishin Wings (8-17) 53-48 on Saturday. The guests took control from the first minutes by winning first half. But Niigata R. won third quarter 21-11. However it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. Aishin Wings dominated on the defensive end, holding Niigata R. to just 6 points in second quarter. Great defensive blocking was one of the keys in this match when Aishin Wings made 8 blocks. Haruki Takahara (173-99) fired 17 points and 5 rebounds for the winners. Forward Hikari Itaya (176-93) chipped in 12 points and 4 steals. Aishin Wings' coach Tatsushi Isshiki used an eleven-player rotation in such tough game. Power forward Umeki Chikako (175-90) produced a double-double by scoring 10 points and 10 rebounds and point guard Megumi Yamasawa (162-96) added 16 points respectively for lost side. Aishin Wings have a solid series of three victories in a row. They moved-up to eighth place, which they share with Hitachi Cougars. Niigata R. at the other side still closes the standings. Aishin Wings will face Hitachi Cougars (#9) in Hitachinaka in the next round. Niigata R. will play at home against the league's leader JX-Eneos S. having rather not much hope for a victory.
