Regular Season Round 24: Benidorm - L Alfas 78-73

There was a minor upset when 3rd ranked L Alfas (11-7) lost on the road to sixth ranked Benidorm (10-8) 78-73 on Saturday. The hosts took control from the first minutes by winning the initial quarter 23-17. But L Alfas won second period 24-20. However it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. It was a good game for point guard Alvaro Martin (181-92) who led his team to a victory with 28 points. American forward Darren Payen (203, college: Vermont) contributed with 12 points and 8 rebounds for the winners. Power forward Alejandro Rivas (203-98) replied with 17 points and 8 rebounds and American guard Anthony Jones (191-84, college: Indiana Tech, agency: Interperformances) added 21 points in the effort for L Alfas. Benidorm maintains sixth position in Group E with 10-8 record. Loser L Alfas dropped to the fourth place with seven games lost. Benidorm will face Sagunto (#9) in Gilet in the next round. L Alfas will play on the road against UAF Lucentum (#11) in Alicante and hope to win that game.
