Regular Season Round 24: Azuqueca - Tenerife Naut. 69-64

Everything went according to plan when first ranked Azuqueca (18-2) defeated at home 6th ranked Tenerife Naut. (11-10) 69-64 on Saturday. However just five-point win is not that big difference and the fans of host team counted on more convincing victory. The hosts trailed by 1 point after first quarter, but they rallied back to get the 5-point lead at the halftime and eventually won the game 69-64. Azuqueca made 22-of-26 free shots (84.6 percent) during the game. They also forced 21 Tenerife Naut. turnovers. Strangely Tenerife Naut. outrebounded Azuqueca 45-30 including 31 on the defensive glass. It was a good game for point guard Alvaro Frutos (188-87, agency: Duran International) who led his team to a victory with 18 points and 4 steals (went 14 for 14 at the free throw line !!!). Serbian power forward Branislav Tomic (205-80) contributed with 13 points and 8 rebounds for the winners. Danish center Sami Eleraky (213-93, college: Pacific) replied with a double-double by scoring 14 points and 13 rebounds and point guard Ayoze Alonso (187-91) added 17 points and 5 rebounds in the effort for Tenerife Naut.Tenerife Naut.'s coach Santi Lucena rotated ten players in this game, but that didn't help. Azuqueca have an impressive six-game winning streak. They maintain first position in Group B with 18-2 record. Loser Tenerife Naut. keeps the sixth place with ten games lost. Azuqueca will face Quintanar (#11) on the road in the next round and are hoping to win another game. Tenerife Naut. will play against Estudio (#12) in Madrid and hope to win that game.
