Regular Season Round 9: Alaska Aces - SM Beermen 96-109

An interesting game for SM Beermen (7-2) which played road game in Makati against 3rd placed Alaska Aces (6-4). Second ranked SM Beermen managed to get a 13-point victory 109-96. SM Beermen shot 29 for 41 from the free-throw line, while Alaska Aces only scored eleven points from the stripe. They outrebounded Alaska Aces 59-47 including a 45-31 advantage in defensive rebounds. SM Beermen looked well-organized offensively handing out 25 assists. Great defensive blocking was one of the keys in this match when SM Beermen made 7 blocks. 31 personal fouls committed by Alaska Aces helped opponents get some easy free throw opportunities. It was a good game for forward Arwind Santos (193-81) who led his team to a victory with a double-double by scoring 21 points, 14 rebounds and 4 assists. American guard Chris Ross (185-85, college: Marshall) contributed with 24 points, 9 assists and 4 steals for the winners. Five SM Beermen players scored in double figures. Point guard Jayvee Casio (178-86) answered with 20 points and 6 assists and naturalized German center Joachim Thoss (201-81) added 15 points, 7 rebounds and 4 assists in the effort for Alaska Aces. Both coaches used bench players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. SM Beermen keeps a position of league leader. Alaska Aces at the other side keep the third place with four games lost. They share the position with NLEX RW. SM Beermen are looking forward to face bottom-ranked KIA Picanto (#12) in Makati City in the next round which should be an easy win for them. Alaska Aces will play on the road against Rain or Shine (#5) in Manila and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
