Regular Season Round 24: Gandia - Begastri 114-61

There was no surprise when 12th ranked Begastri (1-17) was outleveled on the road by first ranked Gandia (14-4) 114-61 on Saturday. The game without a history. Gandia led from the first minutes and controlled entire game increasing their lead in each quarter. They dominated down low during the game scoring 64 of its points in the paint compared to Begastri's 26 and made 23-of-26 free shots (88.5 percent) during the game. They outrebounded Begastri 47-18 including a 35-13 advantage in defensive rebounds. Gandia looked well-organized offensively handing out 24 assists comparing to just 7 passes made by Begastri's players. It was a good game for American forward Matthew Temple (208, college: Texas Tech) who led his team to a victory with a double-double by scoring 25 points and 16 rebounds. The other American import forward Faith Pope (201-95, college: Texas Arlington) contributed with 28 points and 8 rebounds (on 11-of-13 shooting from the field) for the winners. Gandia's coach Victor Rubio felt very confident that he used 10 players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Forward Juan-Antonio Padilla (193-84) replied with 13 points and 4 assists and Ruben Rodriguez (-90) added 11 points and 6 rebounds in the effort for Begastri. Both teams had four players each who scored in double figures. Gandia maintains first position in Group E with 14-4 record, which they share with UCAM Murcia II. Begastri lost fifth consecutive game. Newly promoted team keeps the twelfth place with 17 games lost. Gandia will face bottom-ranked Aldaia (#10) at home in the next round and are hoping to win another game. Begastri will play against the league's second-placed UCAM Murcia II and hope to win that game.
