Regular Season Round 24: Rosalia - Gijon 68-79

There was no surprise when 10th ranked Rosalia (9-13) lost to second ranked Gijon (16-6) in Santiago de Camp. 68-79 on Saturday. Gijon outrebounded Rosalia 40-28 including 25 on the defensive glass. It was a good game for American forward Malik Wineglass (203, college: Harris-Stowe St.) who led his team to a victory with a double-double by scoring 23 points and 19 rebounds. The other American import point guard Kenny Hatch (180, college: Texas A&M Int.) contributed with 17 points and 5 rebounds for the winners. Nilo Barreiro (192-95) replied with 16 points and 5 rebounds and guard Marcos Orejas (-95) added 12 points in the effort for Rosalia. Five Rosalia players scored in double figures. Rosalia's coach rotated ten players in this game, but that didn't help. Gijon have a solid three-game winning streak. They maintain second position in Group A-B with 16-6 record having just five point less than leader Vic. Rosalia lost fifth consecutive game. They stay at the bottom place with 13 games lost. Gijon will face Culleredo (#13) on the road in the next round which should be an easy win for them. Rosalia will play against the league's leader Marin and hope to win that game.
