Regular Season Round 24: Ponferrada CDP - Venta de Banos 95-55

Very expected game when 16th ranked Venta de Banos (5-17) was smashed on the road by fifth ranked Ponferrada CDP (11-11) 95-55 on Sunday. The game without a history. Ponferrada CDP led from the first minutes and controlled entire game increasing their lead in each quarter. They dominated down low during the game scoring 62 of its points in the paint compared to Venta de Banos' 26. Ponferrada CDP forced 22 Venta de Banos turnovers and had a 28-17 advantage in offensive rebounds. They looked well-organized offensively handing out 22 assists comparing to just 7 passes made by Venta de Banos' players. It was a good game for American swingman Chris Sterling (196, college: Ariz.Christian) who led his team to a victory with 23 points. Point guard David Velasco (180) contributed with 21 points and 4 steals (on 9-of-10 shooting from the field) for the winners. Ponferrada CDP's coach Juan Norat felt very confident that he used entire bench which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Swingman Alejandro Young (194-97) replied with 15 points and 8 rebounds and American forward Davante McCallam (203-91, college: Chadron St.) added 18 points and 6 rebounds in the effort for Venta de Banos. Despite that victory Ponferrada CDP went down to seventh position (Group A-B) due to points difference, which they share with Estudiantes L. and Innova Chef. Venta de Banos lost fourth consecutive game. They keep the sixteenth place with 17 games lost. Ponferrada CDP will face Coruna II (#15) at home in the next round and are hoping to win another game. Venta de Banos will play against Innova Chef in Zamora and hope to win that game.
