There was a minor upset when 8th ranked Israeli Maccabi T-A (12-11) was defeated on the road by tenth ranked Spanish Unicaja Malaga (10-13) 83-69 on Thursday. It was a very close game until the last quarter, when Unicaja Malaga's pressure prevailed and they won that period 23-14 extending their advantage to 14 points. The best player for the winners was Serbian point guard Nemanja Nedovic (191-91, agency: BeoBasket) who scored 15 points and 5 assists. American forward James Augustine (208-84, college: Illinois) chipped in 12 points and 9 rebounds. American DeShaun Thomas (201-91, college: Ohio St.) produced 14 points and American-Hungarian swingman DeAndre Kane (195-89, college: Iowa St., agency: BeoBasket) added 15 points (on 7-of-9 shooting from the field) respectively for the guests. Both coaches allowed to play bench players saving starting five for next games. Unicaja Malaga moved-up to ninth place, which they share with Baskonia. Loser Maccabi T-A keeps the eighth position with 11 games lost. Unicaja Malaga will meet Crvena Zvezda (#12) in the next round. Maccabi T-A will play against the league's leader CSKA (#1) and will have a slim chance for a victory.
