Regular Season Round 29: Niigata R. - Denso Iris 51-81

Bottom-ranked Niigata R. is still unable to win any game. This time they could not use their home court advantage losing their 29th consecutive match to third ranked Denso Iris (23-6) 81-51 on Saturday evening. The game without a history. Denso Iris led from the first minutes and controlled entire game increasing their lead in each quarter. They dominated down low during the game scoring 56 of its points in the paint compared to Niigata R.'s 30. Denso Iris looked well-organized offensively handing out 26 assists. Great defensive blocking was one of the keys in this match when Denso Iris made 7 blocks. The former international center Sakura Akaho (182-96) nailed 18 points and 8 rebounds (on 8-of-9 shooting from the field) for the winning side and the former international guard Momoko Inai (166-95) accounted for 5 points, 5 rebounds, 11 assists and 4 steals. Four Denso Iris players scored in double figures. Point guard Megumi Yamasawa (162-96) came up with 8 points and 9 rebounds and power forward Umeki Chikako (175-90) added 10 points and 4 assists respectively for Niigata R. in the defeat. The winner was already known earlier in the game, so both coaches allowed to play the bench players saving starting five for next games. The victory was the third consecutive win for Denso Iris. They maintain third place with 23-6 record having five points less than leader JX-Eneos S. Niigata R. lost their twenty ninth game in a row. They still close the standings. Denso Iris will meet Hitachi Cougars (#8) in the next round which should be theoretically another easy game. Niigata R. will play against Chanson V-M (#4) and hopes to get finally their first victory.
