Regular Season Round 24: Pinheiros - Flamengo 67-78

There was no surprise in Sao Paulo where 7th ranked Pinheiros (13-12) was defeated by second ranked Flamengo (22-3) 78-67 on Thursday. Flamengo outrebounded Pinheiros 35-24 including 29 on the defensive glass. The best player for the winners was the former international power forward Joao-Paulo Batista (205-81, college: Gonzaga) who scored 22 points and 8 rebounds. The former international Marquinhos Vieira (207-84) chipped in 19 points and 6 assists (went 7 for 7 at the free throw line). At the other side the best for losing team was American guard Cordero Bennett (188-88) who recorded 19 points and 4 assists and his fellow American import guard Desmond Holloway (191-90, college: Co.Carolina) added 8 points and 6 rebounds respectively. Both coaches tested many bench players and allowed the starting five to rest. Flamengo have an impressive nine-game winning streak. They keep a position of league leader, which they share with Paulistano. Pinheiros lost fourth consecutive game. They keep the seventh place with 12 games lost. Flamengo will face SKY/Basquete (#11) in Aldeota in the next round and are hoping to win another game. Pinheiros will play on the road against Mogi (#4) in Mogi das Cruzes and hope to win that game.
