Regular Season Round 27: Ponferrada CDP - Betanzos 74-69

There was a small surprise when eighth ranked Ponferrada CDP (13-12) beat at home 6th ranked Betanzos (13-12) 74-69 on Saturday. The hosts trailed by 6 points after three quarters before their 23-12 charge, which allowed them to win the game. Ponferrada CDP outrebounded Betanzos 43-21 including a 28-15 advantage in defensive rebounds. It was a good game for American swingman Chris Sterling (196, college: Ariz.Christian) who led his team to a victory with 25 points. Senegalese center Serigne Barro (208-95) contributed with 18 points and 8 rebounds for the winners. Guard Guillermo Pereiro (191-89) answered with 18 points and 8 rebounds and center Rodrigo Plaza (197-93) added 12 points and 5 assists in the effort for Betanzos. Betanzos' coach tried various players' combinations and tested in total eleven players in this game, but that didn't help. Ponferrada CDP moved-up to sixth place in Group A-B, which they share with Innova Chef and Betanzos. Ponferrada CDP will face league's leader Marin on the road in the next round and it will be quite challenging to get another victory.
