Regular Season Round 23: RR Retail Galli - Cagliari V. 93-67

Not a big story in a game in Valdarno where 14th ranked Cagliari V. (3-18) was rolled over by second ranked RR Retail Galli (18-4) 93-67 on Saturday. RR Retail Galli dominated down low during the game scoring 66 of its points in the paint compared to Cagliari V.'s 36 and had 21 for 28 from the free-throw line, while Cagliari V. only scored four points from the stripe. RR Retail Galli forced 42 Cagliari V. turnovers and outrebounded them 37-19 including 25 on the defensive glass. It was a great evening for guard Federica Iannucci (172-93) who led her team to a victory scoring 39 points (!!!) and 5 rebounds. The former international power forward Silvia Sarni (190-87) helped adding 13 points, 5 rebounds and 4 assists. Four RR Retail Galli players scored in double figures. Guard Paola Raiola (160-99) responded with 16 points and point guard Marta Vargiu (168-88) scored 15 points. Since the result was very predictable, it gave the chance for the coaches to test many bench players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Newly promoted RR Retail Galli maintains second place in A2 with 18-4 record having just three points less than leader Sesto SG. Loser Cagliari V. keeps the fourteenth position with 18 games lost. RR Retail Galli will face Faenza (#6) on the road in the next round. Cagliari V. will play against Palermo (#3) and hope to win that game.
