Regular Season Round 23: Marousi - Psychiko 67-80

Another exciting game was a derby match between two teams from Athens: Psychiko (#10) and Marousi (#11). Marousi was defeated at home 67-80 and even the advantage of their own court did not help. The game was mostly controlled by Psychiko. Marousi was better in fourth quarter 23-18. But it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. Psychiko dominated down low during the game scoring 50 of its points in the paint compared to Marousi's 30. Their players were unselfish on offense dishing 23 assists comparing to just 5 passes made by Marousi's players. It was an exceptional evening for point guard Thomas Nikou (185-80) who led the winners with a double-double by scoring 12 points, 5 rebounds and 17 assists. Naturalized American swingman Nicholas Paulos (201-92, college: NC-Greensboro) accounted for 21 points and 5 rebounds for the winning side. Guard Christos Dakoulias (186-87) came up with 16 points and 4 assists and Andreas Rekouniotis (200-95) added 12 points and 8 rebounds respectively for Marousi in the defeat. Both teams had four players each who scored in double figures. Both coaches used bench players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Psychiko (11-12) moved-up to ninth place. Newly promoted Marousi dropped to the twelfth position with 14 games lost. Psychiko will play against bottom-ranked AE Larissas (#16) at home in the next round and are hoping to win another game. Marousi will play against Ethnikos (#8) in Pireus and hopes to get back on the winning track.
