Regular Season Round 24: Zalgiris - Lietkabelis 85-72

An exciting game between Top Four teams was played in Kaunas. First ranked Zalgiris faced 4th ranked Lietkabelis. Host Zalgiris (24-3) defeated guests from Panevezys (17-10) 85-72. Lietkabelis was ahead by 6 points at the halftime before a 46-27 second half run of Zalgiris. They made 32-of-36 charity shots (88.9 percent) during the game, while Lietkabelis only scored fourteen points from the stripe. Lietkabelis was plagued by 32 personal fouls down the stretch. It was a good game for Canadian-Slovenian point guard Kevin Pangos (188-93, college: Gonzaga) who led his team to a victory with 24 points and 5 assists (went 9 for 9 at the free throw line !!!). Serbian point guard Vasilije Micic (196-94, agency: BeoBasket) contributed with 16 points and 5 assists for the winners. The former international center Ksistof Lavrinovic (209-79) replied with 13 points and Latvian swingman Zanis Peiners (207-90) added 8 points and 5 assists in the effort for Lietkabelis. Both coaches used bench players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Zalgiris have a solid four-game winning streak. Defending champion maintains first position with 24-3 record. Lietkabelis at the other side keeps the fourth place with ten games lost. Zalgiris will play against Siauliai (#6) on the road in the next round where they are favorite. Lietkabelis will play against Vytautas in Prienai and hopes to get back on the winning track.
