Regular Season Round 21: Parnu - Tartu Ulikool 64-83

Date: March 31, 2018
Very expected game when 6th ranked Parnu (10-16) was smashed at home by second ranked Tartu Ulikool (18-7) 83-64 on Saturday. The game was mostly controlled by Tartu Ulikool. Parnu was better in third quarter 16-15. But it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. They outrebounded Parnu 44-29 including a 34-21 advantage in defensive rebounds. Great defensive blocking was one of the keys in this match when Tartu Ulikool made 7 blocks. It was a good game for Swedish center Carl Engstrom (216-91, college: Alabama) who led his team to a victory with a double-double by scoring 17 points, 13 rebounds and 4 blocks (on 8-of-9 shooting from the field). The former international forward Kristjan Kitsing (205-90, agency: Octagon Europe) contributed with 16 points and 9 rebounds for the winners. Four Tartu Ulikool players scored in double figures. Tartu Ulikool's coach Priit Vene used an eleven-player rotation saving starting five for next games. Swingman Rannar Raap (191-92) answered with 8 points, 6 rebounds and 6 assists and forward Mihkel Kirves (190-96) added 14 points in the effort for Parnu. The victory was the fourth consecutive win for Tartu Ulikool. They maintain second place with 18-7 record having six points less than leader Kalev/Cramo. Loser Parnu dropped to the fifth position with 16 games lost. Tartu Ulikool will face Valga (#4) at home in the next round. Parnu will play against Rapla and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
