Regular Season Round 25: Marousi - Doxa Lefkadas 81-85

No shocking result in a game when eighth ranked Doxa Lefkadas (13-12) beat 12th ranked Marousi (9-16) in Athens 85-81 on Wednesday. Marousi trailed by 12 points at halftime and as many as 17 after three quarters before a 34-21 last quarter charge cut the deficit to 81-85 at the end of the game. Doxa Lefkadas made 21-of-24 free shots (87.5 percent) during the game. Doxa Lefkadas had a 33-22 advantage in offensive rebounds. They shot the lights out from three sinking 14 long-distance shots on high 53.8 percentage. Marousi was plagued by 24 personal fouls down the stretch. It was a very good performance for point guard Nikos Liakopoulos (188-83) who helped to win the game recording a double-double by scoring 17 points and 11 assists. Guard Vaggelis Tzolos (192-91) contributed with 18 points and 8 rebounds for the winners. Four Doxa Lefkadas players scored in double figures. Orfeas Stasinos answered with 30 points and Andreas Rekouniotis (200-95) added 11 points and 9 rebounds in the effort for Marousi. Marousi's coach Kostas Keramidas tried various players' combinations and tested in total eleven players, but that didn't help to avoid defeat in this game. Doxa Lefkadas moved-up to seventh place, which they share with Ethnikos. Marousi lost fourth consecutive game. Newly promoted team keeps the twelfth position with 16 games lost. Doxa Lefkadas will face AE Larissas (#15) at home in the next round and are hoping to win another game. Marousi's supporters look forward to an exciting derby game next round, where their team will travel locally in Athens to the arena Doukas.
