The game in Belmopan was also quite interesting. Third ranked Belize City D. (6-2) played at the court of 6th ranked Belmopan B. (2-7). Belize City D. managed to secure a 4-point victory 94-90 on Friday. Belize City D. looked well-organized offensively handing out 21 assists. American forward Nigel Jones (200-90, college: Talladega) notched a double-double by scoring 33 points (!!!) and 15 rebounds to lead the effort and guard Francis Arana supported him with 12 points. Jones is a former Eurobasket Summer League player, which is considered top international summer league in the market. Even a double-double of 23 points and 15 rebounds by American forward Luther Page (198, college: Alabama St.) did not help to save the game for Belmopan B.. The former international guard Leon Jacob (191-84, college: Texas A&M Int.) added 21 points for lost side. Four Belmopan B. players scored in double figures. Both coaches tested many bench players in such tough game. Belize City D. have a solid three-game winning streak. Newly promoted Belize City D. maintains third position with 6-2 record having 2 victories less than leader San Pedro T. Belmopan B. lost fifth consecutive game. Defending champion keeps the sixth place with seven games lost. Belize City D. will meet at home Verdes (#5) in the next round. Belmopan B. will play against Orange Walk RR and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
