Regular Season Round 23: Hapoel T-A - Maccabi Rishon 82-79

A very close game took place in Tel-Aviv between Hapoel Tel-Aviv and Maccabi Rishon. Fifth ranked Hapoel Tel-Aviv (12-11) got a very close home victory over 9th ranked Maccabi Rishon (9-14). Hapoel Tel-Aviv managed to escape with a 3-point win 82-79 on Monday evening. The hosts trailed by 9 points after three quarters before their 32-20 charge, which allowed them to win the game. Hapoel Tel-Aviv looked well-organized offensively handing out 22 assists. It was a great evening for American guard Jerel McNeal (190-87, college: Marquette) who led his team to a victory scoring 16 points, 6 rebounds and 6 assists. His fellow American import point guard Tywain McKee (188-86, college: Coppin St.) helped adding 14 points and 6 assists. International power forward Idan Zalmanson (206-95) responded with a double-double by scoring 20 points and 10 rebounds and international point guard Avi Ben-Chimol (194-85) produced a double-double by scoring 11 points and 16 assists. Both teams had four players each who scored in double figures. Hapoel Tel-Aviv maintains fifth place with 12-11 record, which they share with Hapoel Eilat. Loser Maccabi Rishon dropped to the eighth position with 14 games lost. They share it with Bnei Hertzeliya and Ironi Nes-Ziona. Hapoel Tel-Aviv will meet Ironi Nes-Ziona (#10) in the next round which should be theoretically an easy game. Maccabi Rishon will play against Hapoel Eilat and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
